On Monday we drove back to our motorhome from our friends place but wanted to cross off a Bucket List Place so we went from Clontarf to Maleny and then onto Kenilworth. We have wanted to drive the Mary River Valley way for so very long, and David has always wanted to check out the Kenilworth Cheese Factory.
It was the most beautiful Lush Green drive ever. If you are ever thinking about driving from Maleny to Gympie I would highly recommend Mary Valley Road as a way to go! The road is windy, and there is a section where its one lane, but I love how green it all is, how the Valleys are deep with many farms along the way – oh and the horses – the quality of the animals are benefiting from the lush grass.
Kenilworth Cheese Factory ::
“Our Red Malling was deceloped by Poppa Hansen at Malling {hence the name} on the Darling Downs in the early 19th Century. Our company purchased the recipe from the Hansen Family. This cheese is still made to the orginial recipe by our cheese makers. So our Red Malling can be called Queensland’s only true cheese. Our Red Malling has a sharp flavour with a slightly open texture and its well accompanied by full bodied Red Wine”
After Kenilworth Cheese Factory we kept on driving towards Gympie via Mary Valley Road – I can’t explain how Green it was, how beautiful the drive was. Compared to the other side of Gympie – its so very dry and the grass is so very brown – from Gympie to Bundaberg it gets drier and more dirt than grass in every paddock – so very hard to imagine that Bundaberg was under two years ago with Floods!!
And we came up to this amazing old Farm Shed. I asked David to pull over – its gorgeous. Can you imagine how much this shed was used? and how the Hay was stored in it, and animals lived in it? I love old buildings!
So very glad we travel our way – seeing things along the way that we have had on our Bucket List for a very long time! We were disappointed that we couldn’t explore the Kenilworth Cheese Factory – and there was no viewing window above, looking down into the factory. There was one told scratched window into the factory but you couldn’t see much and they had already packed up for the day.
I guess that most places now days can’t have people touring through their place due to all the Rules and Regulations of Health and Safety?
