Yeah, Yeah I know I know….we went to Goulburn on our way back from our weekend camping trip to Cowra, which was months ago {back in October} but I am still trying to play catch up. Actually its only when I look through photos that I have realised that I haven’t shared it here at New Life on the Road. Silly me cause I love to share.
Oh if you are ever in Cowra then you must make time for the Cowra Chinese Gardens – its a great place for a mini melt down and to relax, a place I will always remember as breaking my heart and fixing it back into place – its just changed a bit that’s all.
The Biggest Balls In Australia seems to be a very weird blog post title hey? But you will see that the title fits for the biggest Sheep in Australia in Goulburn, a place that I would have loved to return to and explore more of but maybe another time! Not the sheep balls but the township, mind you.
Actually I don’t think its called a sheep, its called a Merino Ram. And its impressive. At first we thought we could only get to see it from the outside so we took a few too many pictures but when we went into the information centre we soon realised we could walk the stairs up to the top to look out its eyes onto the world.
If you wanta know all the specifics of the Big Merino – like height, its nickname, its history and why its there then you could always take a jump on over the fence to Big Merino Wikipedia <———— Click on the hi-lighted words for those who are not sure where to find it 🙂
The Biggest Sheep From The Outside ::
Yeah its doesn’t look that big in the picture until you have your kids standing next to it…..
Now can you see how its the biggest sheep in Australia? Still not convinced? Then check out the size of its head when you zoom the camera in….
After standing in awe of the Biggest Sheep in Australia we decided to check out the store next to it, and soon discovered that in fact you could walk into the Biggest Sheep in Australia…..
Yes We Do Have One Photo of our 15 year old Son on our Trip! Gosh I so wished none of my boys went through phases of not wanting to have their pictures taken but our second son wen through the phase for years – he now realises how important photos are for family history – and our 15 year old son is being very strong determined not to have photos of him so I am trying to accept the situation and hope one day soon that he changes his mind about the camera!
“Soft as silk yet durable, warm yet breathable, no man-made fibre can come close to replacing Merino’s naturally occurring combination of attributes. Having evolved over millions of years, the Merino fibre is soft, provides great insulation repels water, resists stains and odours, absorbs moisture, aids breathability and more.
Why Australian merino?
Australia is renowned globally for providing the world’s whitest, finest, and most luxurious Merino Wool – providing a greater level of quality, comfort and durability.”
I think the above Picture is the left eye? At least I think what my memory is telling me….like I said we went there months ago and we have seen so much since then!
Be prepared to walk many steps to get to the top, and many steps to get back down to the bottom of the Sheep!! And Yes it was very warm that day, I could only imagine it must get really hot inside there at Summer Time.
As you are walking either up or down you can stop at different sections to read the History of the Wool – you will need time to stop and find out more about Merino Wool and its history, worth the time of the day.
As we walked down slowly we stopped to read more and see as much as possible. It spun Kyle out to see his Name on the Side of a railing….we think it must have been a Brand Sponsor Name?
Like I said – take the time to stop and find out the history…..our boys move way too fast when we are in Museums, or Galleries or inside The Biggest Balls in Australia so I had to be happy with taking as many pictures as possible so that I could read about the wool when I got home and uploaded our Pictures.
200 Years of Merino Wool History sure is fascinating 🙂
The Photo You All Have Been Waiting for…….
See I told You it has the biggest balls in Australia!!!
So if you are ever in Goulburn New South Wales, and you see a Big Merino Sheep then stop on in and have a good look, its worth taking the time out of your day and great way for kids to learn about the history of the Merino Wool, perfect for our homeschooling boys!
Have You Been To See The Big Merino?
Cheers

Wowee! Mr Merino has some very daunting gonads there, Lisa! Have you and the family seen the movie Ghostbusters? If so, would it be cool if the boys could take the Merino Ram for a spin like the guys did in the movie with The Statue of Liberty?? LOL.
