The other day the boys were getting restless within the bus, and outside the bus they were still very restless! Not sure about your kids, but I know that when my boys are restless they start full on fights – fights with words and with their body! It’s funny to see three boys really going to town with each other – gosh how do they learn to fight at the age of 6, 9 and 12!!
We Ended up at Wappa Falls
Wappa Falls – Huge dam wall, with very green water in the bottom 🙂
We had heard about Wappa Falls from another family that is also travelling with four boys. They let us know how good a time their family had while at Wappa Falls, so we were keen to try it out….we were supposed to be going to the beach but we had spent so much time at Telstra and the day got away from us.
The Entrance to Wappa Falls took our breath away. It was stunning to say the least….the place is gorgeous! It’s so green, and there is so much wildlife within the park. Who ever is looking after Wappa Falls is doing a good job, because the place is in top condition. There was even a couple that was using their equipment to spot different birds. From the way they were set up with their equipment, and by the way they were situated in the park, it looked like they were serious bird watches.
It Was Amazing To See How The Dam Was Made!
Seen as how our boys were so restless (oh all right – they were really bored!!) we decided not to disturb the couple and parked our car on the other side of Wappa Falls. Which worked out perfectly because we were really close to the amazing playground equipment and flying fox.
Never seen Kyle serious before! Caught him concentrating while discovering this tree.
We Are So Close Yet Never Knew
It’s funny how we only had to take a drive inland, and there we were, we were so close to paradise yet we never ever knew! Wappa Falls could almost be called paradise. If you closed your eyes, listened to all of the birds calling, and then opened your eyes slowly you could imagine that you were in another country. The water surrounding the park land, the bush walking track, the painted murals on the wall and the location of Wappa Falls could easily lead you to believe that you had driven way out west, and that no one lived anywhere close by.
Our Boys were like different kids – it calmed them all down!
It was perfect. It calmed me down (by then I was strung up like a guitar, wondering what the boys were going to do next to each other!) and I was at peace once again. The peaceful scenery helped me to remember to breathe deeply again, and once again I felt like I could take on the world.
Climbing Trees, they loved exploring Wappa Falls
Have you ever found a place where you can go there feeling like you are not calm, and yet within minutes of surrounding yourself with nature, you feel like you could take on the world?
That is what Wappa Falls did for me. Actually I think it helped our whole family – as the boys were no longer restless, David was even more calm! As we were standing there, watching the boys having fun, and I was trying to work out how to use my camera in the dusk, another family arrived.
The Most Amazing Trees!
We Were Meant To Be There
It’s so funny, but I noticed the other family as they have a dog that looks like one of the dogs from the same Caravan Park we are staying at!! I kept looking at the dog, then I looked at the younger baby of their family, and I was sure they lived down near the pool. I then asked them, and yes they confirmed that they live in the park we are staying at. It was so good to speak with another family – a family that has four children…and one who live in the Caravan Park yet keeps to themselves.
BBQ picnic area at Wappa Falls
Before we know it its close to 6.00pm and that means that Wappa Falls gate is going to be closed for the night! It was so nice to meet another family, and watch how well our boys got along with their family. They understood the complex situations of having a big family in a small place….as they have lived in one of the permanent cabins for seven years. Which means that three of their children have been born into their lifestyle.
The most amazing flowers at Wappa Falls
Wished we had thought to live in smaller space when our kids were younger!!
No-one wanted the day to end. It was so nice to get fresh air, be out doors and watch our boys climb the trees, explore Wappa Falls, discover new friendships, listen to the birds singing, discover new flowers, take in the art work that the local school children had painted on the wall, learn about the trees in the location, and watch our family become one again.
Sun going down!

Wappa Falls sounds amazing and exactly what you all needed to have a break from the bus. When our kids were younger, we would take them to the beach nearly every weekend and it really settled them for when we were home. Kids also need a change of scenery every so often.

Hi Jackie,
Like the idea of going to the beach when your kids were younger – they so benefit from playing in the water and enjoying themselves! Plus it a great way to relax. We loved every minute of Wappa Falls, and we cant wait to get back there one day soon.

I remember being fascinated by waterfalls when I was a kid – and I still enjoy seeing them today.
Wappa Falls looks great… and you’re right, everything looks so green – reminds me of England 🙂

Cabin Fever and what a perfect solution for you all. There is nothing like getting back to nature to restore your soul. What a small world it is, meeting a family with so much in common and in the same area. I meant to ask if you have been to Kings Beach, my step dad met us there one day and it has a fantastic pool overlooking the ocean. We had a wonderful day there. Give our love to all your boys and will get together soon.
ciao love lisa

That sounds like the perfect day. I love when you just stumble across one of those. I’m not surprised your kids climbed those strangler figs and trees – they look like they are just built for climbing. I’ve never even heard of Wappa Falls despite living in Brisbane for 15 years.
