We took a drive out to see Mt Perry – I think it was a few weeks back. We have been before, many years ago. But this time we were looking at the land around there to see what it was like, and also to see the town as David was meant to have work lined up out there. But in the end the Job wasn’t suitable to his {family} needs so that didn’t pan out but we still made sure to stop at Boolboonda Tunnel.
Again we have been to the tunnel many years ago, but my boys don’t really remember it as my camer went flat when we got there so we don’t have any memories of it 🙂
This time I made sure the camera was fully charged, and took advantage to get out of the car, and walk through the tunnel instead of just driving through it.
There is also a great Geocache at the tunnel entrance that we made sure to find!
At the entrance, to the left, is a information board. Make sure you get out and read the history of Mt Perry, on the board there are options to press and hear all about how the tunnel was made, why it was made, and when the train stopped working – hard to imagine that a train was able to fit through the tunnel.
The tunnel is suitable for cars and you can also walk through. There is bats that will fly all around you as you are walking through, which is fine – they won’t hurt you. Best to take a torch with you so that you can see the bats, and also so that cars can see you.
At the toilet block in town there is a Laundry Room for travelers. As well as a Showers in the toilets. Its a great place as they also have a playground for little ones!
This statue was erected to give recognition to those people who have lived and died in mining in this region and the contribution of mining to the economies of Mt Perry and Queensland.
In celebration of Queensland’s 150th Birthday funding for this project was provided by the Queensland Government’s Q150 Program.
The image was officially unveiled on 15th October 2008

The town is super RV friendly – with great walking hertiage trail through the main street. There is accommodation at the caravan park and the show grounds, not sure on prices etc! Along with the Mt Perry Federal Inn and the Pub which also has rooms.
We didn’t get to the look out this time, but I am sure we wll go back another time and have a climb up to.
Until then we hope that you get to experience the Boolboonda Tunnel and the town of Mt Perry.
Have You Been To The Boolboonda Tunnel?
Cheers
