Easy-to-Carry Pack for a Coastal Summer Vacation
Most of us love traveling and simply cannot wait for our next adventure as soon as our plane touches down. Exploring new cities and trying exciting food are some of the great things about traveling, however, one of the less-liked but unfortunately necessary aspects of setting off on our adventure is – packing.
We always tend to think about all the possible scenarios while packing that in the end, we take way more clothes and cosmetics than we really need, ending up not wearing half of what we took. Not to mention hauling that huge suitcase and paying expensive checked baggage fees! But you can put an end to this if you learn how to pack light.
Packing light doesn’t necessarily have to mean sacrificing style or comfort, but it does require forethought instead of just shoving everything in your suitcase. However, once you master the art of packing light, you will be able to travel comfortably with just a carry-on bag. Here are some tips that will help you pack smart. If you are headed for a coastal summer vacation in the near future, you probably need this.
Choose a practical bag
Packing light starts with picking the right bag. For an active holiday such as a coastal vacation, your best bet would be a backpack – it’s easier to carry around than a suitcase but it can still fit all your stuff and won’t be in the way when you’re trying to catch your train or plane. However, if you cannot go without a suitcase, make sure you go for a small one that will still fit into different airlines’ carry-on allowance. If you’re a frequent flyer, you probably already know these numbers by heart, but if you aren’t that well-versed in traveling by plane, make sure you check your airline’s policies and carry measuring tape when you go suitcase shopping.
Cut back on the cosmetics
Of course, when we are traveling, we want to look good. But instead of carrying your entire 7-step beauty regime and wasting an hour every day putting on your makeup, try to cut back on the cosmetics you take with yourself and enjoy the sun and the breeze on your bare skin. We tend to sweat a lot during the summer, so your foundation and eyeliner will just melt off anyway. Instead, make sure you have a good sunscreen and the bare necessities such as your mascara, your moisturizer and a lip balm, and enjoy your authentic, unfiltered self. When it comes to toiletries, if your accommodation provides you with shower gel and the like, leave yours at home and your bag will be that much lighter.
Be wise with the electronics
Some people cannot imagine leaving their laptops at home. However, for an unforgettable and relaxing coastal vacation, you really aren’t going to need your files and documents! Instead of browsing the net, you will be strolling the beach, so take this opportunity to do a bit of a digital detox while at it. On the other hand, by choosing one small device wisely, you can leave a lot of other things at home. For instance, an e-reader or a tablet will allow you to forget about heavy books (if you’re a bookworm) and paper maps. If you use a camera, don’t forget to pack it safely. You can pick up spare batteries at your destination, so you don’t have to carry those.
Pick the right clothes
Clothes are what take up the most room in your bag, so it’s essential to be smart when choosing what to take. Since you are headed for a summer vacation, there’s no need to pack for the scenario of “What if I’ll be cold?” Instead, go for thin, light clothes that take up virtually no space. You’ll certainly need a swimsuit or two, but don’t forget about cover-ups either. These are great to wear for the beach as you won’t have to deal with bulky clothing. So, find a light sarong or kaftan such as those at ByMerrin. For a complete beach look, as well as to protect yourself from the sun, you’ll also need a pair of sunglasses and a hat – but you can wear these instead of packing them, thereby saving space.
Footwear
Packing footwear can be tricky, especially if you want to pack light. Some people can pull off taking just one pair, but you have to be very smart. Luckily, for a summer coastal vacation, you won’t need your entire footwear arsenal. You can wear a pair of sneakers while you travel and pack a pair of sandals at the bottom of your bag. It won’t take up much space and it’s unlikely that you’ll need anything else during your trip. And remember – you can probably buy anything at your destination so if anything happens to your shoes, you can just go into the nearest mall and you’re good to go.
Packing for a summer coastal vacation doesn’t have to involve bulky suitcases. Just take the bare necessities and choose clothes that don’t take up much space, and you’ll realize that you don’t really need all that stuff anyway.
